Dave, and All,
  The paint that JC refered to on the title board of the LPC is not a "krinkle" , "crackle", nor does it have "ridges". It has "bumps" (or sorta like a kid--"pimples"--or maybe "hives"?)(or better, like I wrote before--"cottage cheese", large kurd--and about the same color).  It is indeed a strange paint surface, for which I still have no name.

I always heard it called crinkle, or krinkle - the type
of paint that gets a bunch of randomly-patterned ridges
in it as it dries, very popular on machinery in the 
1940s and 1950s.
