[Jukebox-list] A Christmas Card for Everyone

David,
Thanks and Merry Christmas--to you and all . This brought back memories of the "background crackle" that was on all "transcriptions".
It reminded me of my Uncle, who just passed at the age of 91. When I was very young, I used to go to work with him. He worked at the Fox Theater in Stockton CA, as the projectionist. I remember him showing me how the "sound on film" worked, and I re-call him saying that the earlier movie sound was on a transcription. I was real curious about that, so he brought me in early one day, before the show opened, and got out the largest "record" I had ever seen ( 16" to 20" I think). He loaded a reel into the projector, started the film, and showed me where to "watch for the (sound ) dart" (on the screen). At the dart, the projectionist was supposed to flip the switch that turned on the turn table, and "hopefully" that would sync the audio to the film. Well, that almost worked. He showed me what he did if it wasn't quite right. He either took his finger and slowed down the turntable, or sped it up by "helping" the turntable motor, until it was right.
I think that there was one transcription with each reel. I remember he only ran one reel, as the other turntable was not functioning---

I think I've mentioned a couple times here that I collect
unusual audio bits, and used them in the past to make
"time filler" bits for a radio show I used to work on.
I've also made several of these at times to send to friends
as Christmas "cards". So, if anyone's interested, here are
some of the better ones in mp3 format:

There's also a "radio drama" episode we made of the same
show (which was usually a humorous talk/interview
program) in which the jaded show host discovers The
True Meaning of Christmas at the local mall. I play
two parts in that, as well as editing it, etc., all
on only four tracks! Anyway, Merry Christmas!
