An operator once told me that it was because the general public was stupid - 
they couldn't read instructions, and didn't know more selections would show 
up by pressing a button and rotating the drum. I didn't really buy this 
explanation, but then last year I brought a Rockola 1454 (with rotating 
titledrum) to my parents 50th wedding anniversary party. My older brother 
looked at the titlestrips and said "is this all you put in here"? And he's a 
lawyer! My 5 year old showed him how to operate the drum :).
