The issue with lossy compression isn't that high frequencies
are rolled off, but that compression artifacts are introduced
into the signal. If you do your mp3 encoding at a high enough
sampling rate (what is that? 193? I seldom use mp3s.) you
will produce a file that is good enough for casual listening,
but it will still exhibit compression artifacts. Another
thing to be careful of is overly agressive noise reduction.
The goal is not to get a perfectly quiet background that
leaves the music all swishly-swirly-gurgly sounding. *That*,
combined with agressive mp3 encoding, will make a real mess.
