The G doesn't have that Jetsons styling that the later AMIs
have so it will never command as much money, but it is a
very sweet sounding machine. The whole cabinet is a dual
horn-loaded speaker. I have a G-200 that I've had since 1976
and have had very little trouble with it. I fixed up a
G-120 for a friend had he loves it. Make sure the top horn
driver is present and functioning because it's hard to
replace (the bottom horn is driven by a regular speaker).
As has already been mentioned, some of the wiring is natural
rubber black zip cord and the natural rubber will be dry
and brittle. Mostly the lighting and the wiring harness
that goes to the turntable. I've never heard of transformers
being a problem wit these. These also had an optional
stepper for wall boxes. It's a gray box that sits on the
far left behind the front door. If that's there, $200 is
cheap. If it's missing, $200 is about right considering
it needs painting and the speckle finish takes a little work.

My theory is that the designers intentionally wanted to
evoke the look (and sound) of the corner-horn home Hi-Fi
speakers that were all the rage in the 50s. My dad built
a huge horn out of 1/2" plywood, and had all the requisite
recordings of steam trains and Les Baxter percussion
interludes to play through it. That design cue is lost
on most people nowadays who only see a boxy looking
cabinet. But it is a spectacular sounding machine.
