For a while a "wasp waisted" pickup was available that would
slip between the mounting posts in the AMI tone arm and ride
at the right height. My G-200 has one. I think I might have
gotten it from Wes (this would have been in the mid 80s)
but they're long since out of production. The cartridge that
was in my JAL-200 also fit, and I was using that for a time.
I tried a Shure cartridge on one I was fixing up for a friend.
I ground down the plastic of the case until I hit metal, but
it still didn't fit in quite deep enough and so was only a
temporary solution. Someone here, a couple years back,
suggested grinding off the threaded posts in the tonearm, and
using screws with nuts to hold the cartridge. That seemed
a little dire to me, but I'll admit I always try to preserve
before I alter.

You can adjust the tonearm height a little, but it effects how
it rides the cam, so it's a kludgey "fix". I fiddled with all
the height adjustments to get my friend's working with the
cartridge we had, but I don't consider it a fix, just a
temporary kludge.
