Nice to see some talk about the 50's AMI jukes. I don't really understand
why
people are buying 70's and 80's jukes when you can buy a 50's AMI for just
as cheap or cheaper. 50's AMI's are highly under rated machines.
Sure everyone has an opinion on the looks and sound, but you can't
beat the visual entertainment of a 50's juke. Ami has probably
the most visible mechanism. It is slower and not as quiet as a
Seeburg, but it is nore entertaining.
If it wasn't for the moving mechanisms of jukes, I would not own one at all.
Sorry about that Kyle. I really like jukes with visible mechanisms.
I think you will like the AMI when you are done and realize
you can own a 50's jukes cheap.
Aaron is correct in many ways. They are butt ugly in unrestored
condition. Clean it up, paint it , buff the aluminum and get it working
and it is a decent looking machine. Fully restored, and they
really do look great.
If someone wants to host the pictures, I can forward some of mine
for all to see. Kyle??
Aaron, did do a great job on the restoration of my AMI F120.
I still have a slection problem to straighten out, but overall
looks and sounds great.
I have also been following the cartridge discussion and look forward
to hearing of a suitable replacement cartridge for the F and G.
I ahve the stock GE cartridge and a new needle in mine.
Works good and sounds good. As far as record wear, I don't know.
I do know that the cabinet is not full of record filings.
