[Jukebox-list] Cleaning the slug rejector--was- Rockola 1438 Slug Ejector Problem

P.P.S.-You may wish to dis-assemble the lower (5 cent) section and the dime magnet for cleaning (a "pipe cleaner" is handy for this task)--if you do so, remember where EACH screw goes--screw size, head type, and length (and washer-if used) are often critical. Also, you should remove, and clean each "washer catcher" (wire form) to be sure that there is no dirt lodged in it. Ron Rich

Ron Rich wrote: The "proper" method for cleaning and lubricating a National Slug Rejector (which was also followed by Coin Acceptors inc., and Reed acceptors ) is as follows:
Clean with hot soapy water. Immerse the unit in the hot soapy water for a few minutes, check all ramps for dirt build up--remove any dirt build-up with a toothpick or something of that nature (nothing "metal"!). Rinse in hot water, (warm air) dry totally. Remove every "rocker". Wipe each rocker pivot post with a soft cloth, removing any dirt. Use the toothpick to clean the inside of the rocker shaft. Put one drop of silicone on a ("Q-tip") cotton swab and wipe the post--it must be dry after being "wiped". Replace the rocker and check for free movement. Next, place ONE DROP of graphite grease on each "friction point". Friction points on all units are: at the very top of the unit, at the"slug release" lever (where it is pushed down--you will see "the friction point", as a "shinny spot" or "black spot"), under that same lever where the return spring rides, just below that lever on the ramp that moves (opens) the gate, on the rear of the rejector, once again in the release
lever opening that pushes the dime lever, and on the dime lever ramp, and under the dime lever, near the ramp where it contacts the base frame. Both "rollers" that "ride" the above two ramps (front and back side of the unit), should get ONE HALF drop of 20wt. ND oil, as should the gate hinge at all friction points. No oil should be allowed to "run" anywhere. The above only needs to be done when the unit is washed. Otherwise no lubrication of any kind is suggested.
The above was taken from instructions written by NRI, which was given to me by a CoinCo rep. and is, the method I have used for years--- as remembered by me--
As for my personal advise--toss any can of WD-40 as far away from a jukebox as possible!!

pulled the same model slug ejector out of my Rockola 1448 out in the garage
(a future project, see... you're gonna hear alot from me) and this slug
ejector does the same thing, the coin still hangs up.

Coin mechs benefit greatly from cleaning. Whatever you do, keep WD-40 far
away from your jukebox. That stuff is guaranteed to cause problems down
the road...evil stuff! As Jay said, open the spring-loaded "pages" and
clean and dry really well. No lube is necessary, and will only gum up
the mechanism after a time.
