Jay,
Yes...the switches mounted to the G are just that - three paddles that get activated when a coin drops on them from the rejector. Having the credit unit do something when a nickel is encountered is as simple as moving a wire or two around from the switches to the plug that goes into the credit unit. At this stage, the nickel issue is strictly mechanical. I never had the time to tear one of those rejectors apart to see what it was that kicked a nickel down the coin-return slot rather than down to the coin switches. But your reply made me think again of how the whole thing works. You are correct...when a nickel is dropped in, it gets caught in a "pocket." Unfortunately, dropping in another nickel just clogs up the whole works. My young neices and nephews found this out because they kept dumping nickels into the thing like crazy with a whole lot of nothing happening! :) I had to keep running over to the jukebox to turn the coin-return knob to kick all of the nickels out. But not one went into the cash box.

So getting the rejector to take a nickel is just for kicks...nothing more. That and a way for my daughter to learn how to count by fives!
