Ah, you got me going Dave.

Of course one lets the buyer know details of the servicing. So far in my
work, the client gets a technical package that goes with the machine.
Includes the manual, schematic and details of what was repaired..... for the
benefit of the next servicing, whether I do it or not.
So yes, ethics in terms of honesty is first, always. It seems the focus of
this thread is to help get a decision on what is best for the juke box and
its optimal performance.

If one is really sensitive to getting the most money for such a juke, upon
resale, and the assumption is true that the highest offer will come soonest
from someone placing top priority on originality then you have to take that
seriously. That's your market.

If I could not get an exact duplicate part out of a "parts box" and I wanted
the juke to work, I think I'd be forced to install a non-original part as
long as it would physically to the job. As you say Dave, this would put the
onus upon me to inform my buyer of the non-original part. But I likely would
reserve the right not to sell to someone who was being a jerk about
originality just so he could beat me down in price and devalue my effort.

For me the issues around originality are somewhat moot with respect to the
old stuff I fix and sometimes sell. My clients understand what I offer to do
to fix their cabinetry and electronics because I tell them ahead of time.
They agree. They pay happily. When they know I have to alter an original
wood veneer finish on their cabinet in order to fix it they have never yet
cautioned me about destroying originality. They like it when I make it
unsplintered, uncracked, unmissing, not unlit and making good sounds again.

Some on this list must deal with clients who expect originality, obviously I
don't. As long as I am honest about what I've done and seek permission to do
the work from the client everyone involved seems satisfied.

That said, some around here say my workmanship is spectacular, amazing. As
for me, I have lots to learn.

Hopefully a straight frame, that is original can be found. If not, well.....
Cheers,
Don
