Jens, at least being called a 'tinkerer' is better than being called a 'butcher'. Wes

I have to agree with both Wes, and Jens--I don't mind cleaver "upgrades" on stuff, when, where needed, but, I object strongly to "butchered" work, and to any "improvements" made that do not have good documentation. Either way just causes me to pull out more hair (of which I ain't got too much left) and increase, and increase, my charges-- greatly ! Ron Rich

That frame will definitely crack if you try to straighten it, heat or no
heat!

As for originality, one good thing if you keep it original is that you can
then follow the service manual. If you put in a different mechanism or solid
state units in old equipment, fixing it gets more complicated.
I am not a purist and can enjoy customization and clever upgrades, but it is
always the most fun to work on an original machine that has not been
'tinkered' with (even if the tinkerer was a pro, sorry Wes ;o).
