Well, I think we basically agree.  It's alot like classic
cars.  There are the concours winners, and there are the
daily drivers.  I have a 1958 MGA and I sometimes read on
the MG mailing lists about people who have MGAs with 
modern 5-speed transmissions, MGB disk brakes, CD players,
newer seats, etc.  I say "If you *want* a Miata, why not
*buy* a Miata?!"  :-)  But mine isn't a concours winner,
either.  There's a satisfaction that comes from the "time
travel" experience of witnessing old machinery operating
as it did when it was new.  There's also a satisfaction
in having it operate at all.  :-)
