    Karl, the pulses received from the generator are not immediately used, but are stored in the stepping switches until the information is needed in the 
'search' mode. At this point, it works lake a later model search unit. The later  models directly access the keyboard information to operate the search unit, a much simpler system if it had been manufactured on a larger and less tolerant scale. 
    The motive on the earlier models, starting with the G-200 and continuing through the model I was to eliminate the need for an outboard stepper for remotes to be connected to. The engineers realized the error of their ways and removed the pulse generator from the Models I, Lyric and Continentals. These models require an optional stepper needed to use if remotes are to be used. 
    The basic problems with these early models is that the average technician has not grasped the concept. The best way to understand this system is to think hideaways and wall boxes manufactured by everyone. Wes
