Studying the corners of the cabinet, I'm gonna say it's a 1935 Model
B...with the aforementioned grille "kit" (those turned balusters don't look
right, more like hardware store specials!) as well as moving the title
strips to a fixture in the top.  I'd say you were right on the money about
the "hard restoration", poor thing.  Better than the scrap heap, though.
