This makes me think about one of the best seeburg R's i owned. i bought a
bunch of old parts and route jukes from a defunct operator. he asked if i
was interested in the machine at his house. when he said seeburg "R", i said

yes! all the original tags were still on the components: the red "remove
this screw" on the stepper cover, the white "remove these bolts before
putting machine into operation" wired to one of the mech shipping bolts
(both were there in the cash bag), the wood spacer for under the mech frame,

the unopened packet of extra title headings, the installation papers were
still in the sleeve glued inside the cabinet. the cashbag had never seen a
coin, he had one of his techs remove the reset ramp in the CCU for the
credit fingers, and then desolder one lead to the latch solenoid. the story
on the juke was that he was invited to one of the operator conventions for
the new "R" back in late 1953 and when he heard the juke, he was just blown
away. after some haggling with his local distributor, he bought several for
his A locations and one for himself. sadly, this guy was a poor tech. what
finally convinced him to sell this box was the amp died. actually turned out

to be the 2AMP fuse had blown due to a bad 40mfd electrolytic after the
5U4. i still have pics of that machine. just beautiful, the burl and grained

DINOC decals were fanastic, even on the footpiece at the bottom that are
always chewed up. the only cosmetic item it needed was grill cloth due to
one of his cats sharpening claws on it. i still have pictures if anyone is
interested in hosting them on a website somewhere. i don't want to have to
sign up for some photo site or send copies of them to 50 people, but if
someone wants to take the initiative, they would be a great benchmark for
what an original R should be. 9+ out of ten, i haven't had the opportunity
to buy better. justin

Makes me wish I had both the money and the space to spare.

Sure, uncrating it means it loses most of its value, but the idea of
having
a box that hasn't had years of wear and tear on it, including being
placed
in greasy pizza shops or smoky bars, scratched by uncaring hands...

Man, I'd be all over this if I could.

Justin, why don't you post the pics on the Google jukebox pictures group.
We'd love to see them.

i've had some people email now about hosting the original seeburg R pics for

the group to view but forwarding has been tough. i narrowed it down to the
best ten shots, close-ups of the original grain finish, decals, tags and the

like. i am still glad to pass them on to someone. they are about 1M in size
each, would like to send in batches of two or three if possible. so you need

to be able to carry 10M of data in your inbox. uploading is slow here and
disappointing to find the emails bounce back. justin
