Greg, prior to the advent of this type mechanism, Wurlitzer used what they called 'wobble plate' switches operated by the memory pins to start the changing cycle. With this new mechanism, it was impractical to use these switches, and they now used the 'override unit, to start the changer. For this unit to be able to scan all possible selections, two rotations of the carousel was necessary. The way it works- the 'add scan' magnet energizes when a selection is made. This operation add two increments of rotation on the accompanying ratchet, one increment being subtracted on each revolution of the carousel. The switch that closes on this unit starts the mechanism.
