Hi Gary and everyone on the list,
Gary: Just to let you know the C is finished (up and running now). With the right records, it sounds very good, lots of volume and decent bass, good highs. I mostly playing vinyl records, not too many shellacs. I changed the original Astatic 51 for a new style Astatic 51 with a flip over needle (LP on one side and a 2 mil 78 on the other). Just thought you would like to know its all done. What I found why it didn't cancel at the reverse sw on the arm and why it would not run after selecting a record was due to the 2 center plugs (out of the 4) going to the mech junction box were swapped with each other and going to the wrong jacks (not forced in the wrong orientation, just the wrong jacks). I labeled them 1-4 for future work so I don't get confused again, doh!
Everyone else: Thank you for your info. about the different 78 rpm styli, Rick.

Hi Rick, here is a link for the Expert stylus company
in England which you might find of interest. They have
diamond tipped my AMI B stylus and it has lasted for
ages. The regular off the shelf ones are sapphire if I
remember correctly. Incidentally, did you ever manage
to get your machine up and running. I would be
interested to hear what the problem was and how you
went about fixing it. Thats assuming you did.
Regards
Gary
