  I'll take a guess at it--but I hope Wes will explain also. I don't think that the "white" nylon gear is to blame--I think that either one or both of the following may be the cause. The nylon gear seems to be less tolerant of a slight mis alignment of the TT shaft, to the worm. I have seen these gears with deformed teeth, which could have been caused by either "people" forcing the TT, in an attempt to move the mech, or mis-alignment of the TT shaft to the worm. The "fiber" gear seems more tolerant to either of the above--however, I have seen those stripped also.  Lack of, lubrication and or the use of the wrong/excess lubrication seems to be a factor, in my opinion, with either type gear. Ron Rich
