I've been using automotive lithium grease for Lubriplate for almost
thirty years - works well, and for oil I use Zoom-Spout Turbine Oil -
which needs to be renewed every five or so years.
(WD-40 is for protecting against water (Water Displacement test # 40)
and is thus for items that you are worried about getting rusty only.
It is not a lubricant and where I have seen it used as such we ALWAYS
have to clean it off with Varsol or similar mineral spirits.)
