[Jukebox-list] Rowe Springs

Guys,
Any commercial juke Tech will tell you that there is no such product as a "Visegrip". The real name of this product is a "Rowe Phonograph Lid Holder". Most (of the smart ) Tech's carry one (or two) in their rear pocket at all times. Those that have not yet learned this trick, do so rather quickly, after the first time the springs fail, and that sharp pointed lid catch imbeds into their scalp ! (Now you know why I'm so smart!)
You can make "holders" out of a hose clamp--the type that have the screw tightner. Just place it around the chrome shaft, and tighten it as needed to keep the lid up. When you wish to let the lid down, just loosen it, allowing it to remain on the shaft for future use.
One caution--if the springs are totally shot, you MUST support both springs or you risk damage to the plastic door--Ron Rich

I had the same problem of weak springs on my R-90 and was unable to find
replacements. I created a workaround that is not original but does the job.
Some auto parts stores (Advance in my area) sell a device called a "Lift
Lock" that permanently installs on the chrome shaft. It incorporates a
springloaded rod which snaps into place against the end of the cylinder
firmly locking the upper door in the raised position. To release, simply
raise the door slightly, move the rod away, and let the door down. Only one
is required per door.
Because the liftlock takes about 1/4" inch of the chrome shaft travel, the
door may not want to close completely. If this is the case, the mounting
hole for the shaft end of the lift must be relocated slightly. Drill a new
hole in line with the original, about 1/4" towards the front of the jukebox
and reinstall the lift into the new hole. It helps to compress the lift
slightly when disconnecting it. I do this by raising the door to its full
travel, then lowering it an inch or so and locking a pair of visegrips onto
the chrome shaft so it can't retract into the cylinder. This way tension is
relieved and the lift is free to be disconnected. Yes, I know that the shaft
surface will be damaged by the visegrips, but since the lift is shot anyway,
I don't care and I'm really happy that the door doesn't come down on my
poor bald head any more.
