Correction--the bracket is on the right-hand side--not th left--Ron Rich

Ian,
In addition to what Tony suggested, check all the mute plugs--starting at the amp, thru to the bracket that the mech plugs into on the bottom left. Look at the female "pins". They must be tight and round--reform them as need be. Also, the most common cause of this type failure is the mute relay itself. To check it, hold the "reject switch" on the CPA, in the reject position and see if the sound is muted. If so, the relay is most likely dirty.
Contact me off line if you don't know how to clean it--Ron Rich

Ian;
To manually reject the record, lift the horizontal metal tab that is
just to the right of the record. This will cause the mechanism to
cycle the record back into the magazine. Of course, the motor must
be running for this to happen, or you must manually rotate the motor
coupling. Automatic reject at end of record is probably due to a
power supply problem in the amplifier not permitting the mute/trip
relay to energize, or a wiring fault, or the trip magnet having
fallen off the pickup arm due to epoxy age. Check my website:
http://home.pacbell.net/fmillera/troubleshoot.htm for details. It's
covered under symptom #4
