[Jukebox-list] Rock-Ola Ultra 437 write-in carriage assembly - out
of control

Hello from Australia,
Thought I'd let the group know that my Rock-Ola Ultra 437 has had the
full makeover and I'm now testing the various systems to see they work.
I'm seeking expert help with a few issues.
My major issue is with the write-in carriage.
All the letters and numbers on the record selector latch fimly and stay
latched until cleared, but when I select some letter/number combinations
the write-in carriage just rotates forever - it doesn't brake and hammer
a pin.
However, some letter/number combinations work fine. For example C3 and
D3 work - quite normally - every time, guaranteed. The write-in carriage
brakes, hammers and then goes through the play cycle as normal.
But others eg. (x)1, (x)2 and (x)7 and (x)8 send the write in carriage
in a spin with no hammering. And sometimes a combination, eg. J6 works,
and then it won't. I'm still in the process of nailing down which
combinations work all the time, some of the time or not at all.
I have the circuit diagram and intend tracing the wires with a
multimeter, as a first step looking for broken wiring - but is there
anything else I'm missing that would cause this?
As you'd expect from a full strip-down restoration, the tracks and
wipers are clean, plugs are correctly plugged together, plug terminals
shiny, and the selection bank seems to be fine (all IMHO).
Just seems like the relevant track on the pinbank selection printed
circuit is not energized, and the wipers on the write-in carriage are
not finding it.
Any thoughts?
