[Jukebox-list] Audio question

yeah - there is a lot to be said for the warmth of a tube amp. It is not for
no reason that tubes remain a favourite of many audiophiles.

As for the discussion about interfacing an ipod. Try slug an ipod intoa
fender tube amp - like a bassman or a super reverb ( a plain old dual 6L6
ouput). As others mention obviously a front end designed for wide dynamic
range is a gimme with an IPOD. More than readily achievable with a 12AX7 ot
whatever. Obviously you need to be within the linear region of the tube
characterisics.

There is no reason on earth why it cannot sound fantastic from a tube amp.

One limiting factor I would think would be roll-off characteritics that may
have been put in the circuit design - either low or high in a juke (assuming
the front end has been designed for wide headroom,)

The major crunch assuming the above would be the speaker system. As someone
else mentioned that is sooo subjective. My hearing lacks greatly in the
midrange and upper end, so what I hear varies hugely from others. (just ask
my girlfiriend! lol).

cheers. FWIW.

Ron,

Compact disc vs. vinyl is always a arguable topic among audiophiles and
audiophile wanna-bee's.

In my humble opinion and being an audiophile, I prefer compact disc
overall.. Especially when the direct digital output signal of a cd transport

is run through an external D to A converter and upsampled to 192kbps then
run though a tube stage.
