Your hearing sounds a little like mine. I can hear my watch
ticking on my wrist as I'm typing this, and I can hear the
sweep frequency from the deflection coils in a TV, but I can't
make out someone talking to me across the table in a noisy
restaurant. That used to try my x-wife nuts - she thought I
was pretending not to understand her because I wanted to
leave. I have mid-range hearing, but it's down a few dB
according to my doctor - and he says that's quite uncommon;
most people lose from the top.
