You know, until you mentioned this, I'd completely
forgotten to tell you the biggest problem with these
AMIs. Some of the 110V wiring in the cabinet is done
with regular black zip cord, like what you'd use for
a table lamp or small appliance. But the insulation
is natural rubber and so by now its exceedingly brittle.
You'll need to replace that. There's not much, but one
of the things to look out for is the wire that goes
to the light fixtures in the glass door. That wire
rests against the aluminum window frame, and if the
insulation flakes off at the bend point - ouch!

I'll note that too. Thanks very much; that's very important information. So, I gather that I should do, assuming that I acquire one that's original (not refurbished), is:

1) replace all the capacitors in the amp
2) replace any rotted/bad wiring

At that point, can the machine be plugged in to see if the mechanism selects?

I saw a G-200 on EBay recently. It was complete, repainted black (originally coral) and the seller claimed it was working, but the starting bid seemed a little high to me ($1,500). Nobody ended up bidding on it and the listing ended. Maybe I'm off base, and not that the machine wasn't worth $1,500, but I think I'm going to hold out for one priced around $800-900.
