You may find that your aluminium trim has been "clear anodised" after it has 
been polished at the factory. The anodising process generates a hard 
protective layer on the metal surface  It involves a lot of elbow grease to 
rub through the anodising to get to the base metal which is what you are 
trying to buff up. Other colours can be applied during the anodising process 
, black being quite popular in the engineering world.

Look for a company who can anodise aluminium, they can also reverse the 
process and remove the existing surface finish.

This can be an expensive process.
