Chris, if you are serious about doing your own
polishing, I would invest in a polishing wheel with a
calico or similar pad (mop) attachment. They are
normally sold with a grinding wheel which can easily
be removed. They can usually be found at main hardware
stores and are not expensive. You will also need the
the polishing material which looks a bit like a bar of
soap and comes in different grades. I bought a heavy
duty one at a car boot sale for £5. I recently got
round to polishing all the aluminium trim on my AMI B
and was quite happy with the results. As there is
something like 21 individual pieces, it took a long
time, lots of elbow grease and can be a messy job. I
would recommend either working outside or in a garage,
wear a mask and goggles. Dont forget to keep all
dangly objects away from the grinder. Best not to wear
a tie or attempt it naked. LOL... As someone else
mentioned, your aluminium maybe have anodised
protective coating which will require a great deal of
work to get to the base material, in which case it
might be worth farming the job out. Good luck

Gary
