  I agree with Nigel--the jukebox companies only put covers on things so that it would cost more to produce the phono, and to annoy the repair people--toss all covers out!! 
  All kidding aside, I do agree with Nigel--very few of those covers are still in place. The only problem that I have seen, that I believe was, partly caused, by a missing cover, was a bent wiper--think someone got a shirt caught in it ("people error")--Ron Rich
