Hi!

We have a Rockola 478 Mystic Jukebox...

After replacing two broken fuses (one was blown, the other was so old that it
fell apart when I took it out) it's kind of working again.

The main problem at the moment is that the gripper arm does not properly grip
the record from the turntable and put it back into the basket.
This is the first Rockola which I am working on, but I guess other Rockolas
have similar gripper mechanisms.

The gripper arm is on a shaft with two gearwheels next to it which are driven
by one gearwheel on another shaft which is driven by the motor...
When a record is taken out of the basket, the one gearwheel which drives the
other two starts moving, and of the two gears on the "gripper arm shaft" only
the back one starts moving at first. This causes the gripper arm to grip the
record. When the record is gripped both gearwheels on the "gripper arm shaft"
are moving synchronously. This lifts the gripper arm and moves it above the
turntable. Then the front gearwheel on the "gripper arm shaft" stops moving
but the back one continues which releases the record onto the turntable.
Everything is good so far.
The problem is when the record should be gripped from the turntable and put
back into the basket.
The back gearwheel on the "gripper arm shaft" starts moving. The front one
should NOT move at all (because it would lift the gripper arm before it
gripped the record) But the front and back gearwheels on the "gripper arm
shaft" seem to stick a bit together, so the front one is moved with the back
one and the gripper arm moves about 1cm above the record before it tries to
grip it.

Any ideas how to "unstick those gripper arm gearwheels"?

Thanks,
  greg
