You might have a couple things going on here. The gripper is
closed by spring action. The turning of the cam simply
"allows" it to close then "pushes" it open. Something might be
binding up that action where the two components of the
bow slide together. Trying to fix that problem by adjusting
the switches might be causing the motor to shut off too
soon, causing the bow to not open completely over the rack,
and failing to cut off power to the motor in play position.
The "natural" action of the transfer motor is to return
the record to the rack. If it's energized after the selection
pin or lever is cancelled, that's what it will do. I'd try
removing the gripper and making sure it's opening and
closing freely.
