[Jukebox-list] Rowe/AMi JAL200 search unit

Hi Jim / Ron,
I have had Rowe search units where the wipers are like both of yours. I
think they must have changed the production style over the years, from
riding on the fingertips to riding on the knuckles.
There are many variants, but all are compatible. Some are gear drivem, some
belt driven. Some have connector at top, some on side. Some 100 select ones
with only half the pins fitted.
Also, like Ron says ,they wear, or sometimes the ends snap off - they are
impossible to set up properly then.
In your case, I think a bit of adjustment on the wipers will cure the
problem. The Rowe search unit can be an interesting little thing at times !!
Nigel

Jim,
You have stated your problem--the letter wipers have worn away. They
should be the same as the number wipers. Those boards were not "perfect" and
short wipers are near impossible to get adjusted so that they reach all
"pads". Ron Rich

Thanks Nigel - I do have the manual, and did take a look at the wiper
adjustments - they looked good to me, so I didn't touch them. But the
adjustment is made at the top (JK) segment. I took a closer look tonight,
and it appears that the circuit board is off center slightly. It's hard to
see the AB letter segment on the inside bottom, but it looks like one of the
"fingers" on one set of wipers is actually in between traces on the circuit
board at this point and is not touching the AB segment. As I rotate around,
the wipers look centered up pretty good 180 degrees from there. Have you
seen this problem? Surely the circuit board hasn't shrunk on one side only.
One other thing - the wipers are not like the manual shows - the letter
wipers are touching the circuit board with the tips of the "fingers" (like a
rake), not with the "heels" like the manual shows. Did they change this, or
is it a misprint in the manual? The number wipers are like the manual shows,
with the "heels" touching. I will try to move the circuit board a little to
get better contact on the AB segment. Thanks,
Jim
