I saw an AMI F80 in an antique mall bust a bunch of records once. Missed
replacing the record by a mile, and dragged it along the others, breaking
several.

Anyway, yes, I do remember hearing about this problem, which kept them from
being a big player in the industry. This problem emerged almost right away.
They produced 10,000 of their first model, so people must have been excited
about the styling. That was the 'airliner' model, a real beauty, as is this
one.

I wonder if a switch could be rigged to the backside of the magazine that
only allows current to the scan motor/function if it's activated? That way,
at least if a record got mishandled while being put away and the transfer
arm didn't complete it's action, it wouldn't scan down and break the rest of
the records.

Aireons are different and cool looking, but are notorious record eaters.
Every adjustment has to be perfect, and even then you hold your breath as it
cycles. Mine once broke every record in the machine - there are no safeties
of any kind. I learned to make only one selection at a time - that way if it
sticks, you are only out one record. Luckily, mine played good the day
someone came to look at it - he ended up buying it :).
