Dan,
Since we do not know what your skill level on mechanical / electrical problems is, I suggest that you (and all "new bee's") start with the purchase of a Service Manual, so that at least you will be able to describe parts in terms everyone can understand. Manuals are available from various sources including Always Jukin Magazine ( www.alwaysjukin.com ).
It is my guess that the part you are speaking of is ("--buttons up top--"), generally referred to as the "keyboard", or "electrical selector". If that is so, and the "box that has the counter in it" ( which I'm guessing is the "pricing unit") is there, look for a couple of added wires going from the pricing unit, to a switch which is reachable on the cabinet out-side. I'm guessing that someone has added a semi-hidden "free play switch" somewhere on the cabinet--Which if pressed (let go quickly !) will enable the keyboard.
Hope that helps, Ron Rich

Hello:
I am brand new to this. I have sort of taken up a jukebox project as
a new hobby. I was just given an AMI F-120, and am sad to say that
the prior owner.. now deceased took out the original tube amp and
replaced it with a more modern transistor/capacitor amp. It actually
played a record after sitting 25 years. THe coin mechanism is gone.
if I push on the correct selector under the record mechanism it will
pick up and play the correct record. The problem is the buttons up
top do nothing. The box (I'm sorry I don't know what to call it)
that has the counter in it is still there.. but I assume that the
coin mech at some point powered up the buttons.
First and foremost. ANy suggestions how to power up the buttons so
that they will work without the coin box.
Some of the buttons are sticking out. can they be fixed.
Do you now anyone in the South Jersey area that works on this type of
machine in the event that I can't figure it out?
Thank you. Dan Peshkin peshkin at comcast.net 856-381-2618
