The secret is you *slide* it.  There are four tabs, each with
a large flat face that rests on the surface of the label, and
a smaller prong under it that presses against the inside edge of
the hole.  Press down on one prong just enough to get it over the
lip of the hole, then slide the adapter in the direction of
that prong until the flat face of the opposing tab clears
the edge of the hole.  Then the adapter just about falls out.
The mistake most people make is in thinking that they have to
force one of the flat sides past the label into the hole, and
that's impossible to do without damaging the record.
