[Jukebox-list] AMI Mech - A bit too clean?

Well, I will not  be recommending MY mech cleaning process to anyone in the
future.  All the paint came off the aluminum castings!  
 
I started with a liberal coat of Greased Lighting  degreaser.  I let it soak
for about 5 minutes - then brushed a few of the really greasy areas with a
cheap 1" paint brush - then rinsed with the garden hose and paint flew
everywhere!  I did not even use my pressure washer.
 
So much paint came off so easy, and the casting looks so good, that will be
that!  The exposed surfaces of the castings will look fine without paint.  I
know aluminum will oxidize over time, but these rough castings in a home
environment should look fine for a few decades.  That will be long enough
for this low budget project.
