    Jimmy, you confuse me. If the normally closed switch was  making 
contact, how could it be not shorting out the resistor?  The purpose of this 
circuit is to protect the coil from overheating. The normally closed switch 
allows full voltage to operate the coil. When the coil bottoms out, the 
switch opens and reduces the coil voltage to a safe level. The nature of the 
beast is it takes more current to pull the plunger in than it takes to hold 
it in. Wes
