I read your book several times and each time I learned something gnu.  I 
learned that beer and troubleshooting live electrical circuits do not 
necessarily go well together.

Yes, I MEANT to say the leaf switch was NOT making contact - you are right, 
it shorts out the dropping resistor until the solenoid pulls in.  I have 
seen pinball machines which used a diode in series for the same function.

A shame Seeburg did not use a similar circuit to maybe prevent those latch 
solenoids from overheating!
