Hi Bill,
Funny it's called a Rock Ola Tempo and it's running slow! <G> I pulled up
a pic of it on Google - good looking machine!
If it uses a 115V AC motor, then almost certainly the replacement idler
wheel is the wrong size or has another issue. The speed of an AC
(brushless) motor is set by the frequency of the AC current (60Hz). As
long as the motor is getting 60Hz it can't go any faster or slower. The
only thing that could cause it to go slower is friction - or appear to go
slower would be an issue with the idler wheel. Does the motor spin freely
by hand? Have you tried putting the old idler wheel back on? If the old
idler wheel runs the turn table at the right speed then there is an issue
with the replacement idler wheel.
One other possibility: Does the motor shaft have two levels on it, one
smaller than the other? If so then perhaps the new idler wheel is
elevated and riding on the smaller (33-1/3) level. That would certainly
make the turntable run slower even if everything else seems okay. Check
to see where the idler wheel lands on the motor shaft.
Is there some space between the top of the new idler wheel and the "C"
clip holding it on? If so then perhaps the idler wheel is riding up when
the motor is on causing it to run on the 33-1/3 level. If that is the
case then you might need some washers between the idler wheel and the "C"
clip. On a recent Rock-ola I put back together a replacement idler wheel
_almost_ rode on the 33-1/3 level. Putting a couple of washers on over
the idler wheel fixed that.
Does this jukebox support 45RPM and 33-1/3RPM? Maybe it is stuck in the
33-1/3 mode?
