PLEASE HELP!!

I have an old 1952 Rockola 1436 Fireball jukebox and I did a really stupid thing. The jukebox has been in the family since the early 60's and has worked perfectly. About two years ago I was working on it cleaning it up and such and without turning it off I sprayed the contacts and wires on the inside of the door with electronic board cleaner. Apparently before it evaporated it shorted something out and now the selector does not work. If you are familure with the 1426 it has a small box in the lower left inside which counts and keeps track of the selections purchased. It has a small wheel on a spring that turns one way with each purchased selection and turns the other as the selections are chosen. What is happening is there is a short someplace. The fuse to the box burns out right away and if I put in a bigger one the diode inside smokes and burns up. I have looked at everything and cannot find the problem. I even sent the whole counter out and had it checked and was told it is working properly. Does anyone know what might be causing the short or where I should look to find it? Thanks in advance.
