Stop dwelling then ;O)

I conclude your turntable might have been slow to start with, the friction
tape just reduced the slippage. Try a strobe

The maths ratio works fine with gears in fact if you look properly at it
you can have as many intermediate ratios as you want it's only the first
and last that matter thats why they are called 'idler'; they don't have any
effect on ratio.

BTW the idler spring on the Lenco turntables serves merely to keep the
wheel touching the turntable and motor spindle, the motor 'pulls' the idler
in around it's shaft and into the turntable. A stronger spring strength
does not improve a good idler, it will an old hard slipping one.

Uhh ok guys , I dont think we need to dwell on this problem much further
, it seems his problem is fixed. Oh- I conducted a little experiment
tonight on my Rockola 1448 45 rpm jukebox. My speed was and is correct
with all original equipment installed. I removed the turntable and cut
some friction tape and wrapped about 3 turns around the idler wheel
surface which engages with the turntable. I then re-installed the
turntable and mounting screw and played the same song I had played prior
to installing the tape , and you wont believe my results! The record
speed increased by at least 5 rpm or so. The tape I put on there would
also be the same as increasing the idler wheel diameter. So , after this
experiment I conclude that idler wheel size matters! Have a good one!
:] Jim
