At the right front of the mechanism is a service switch that raises an
irregular piece of metal off the scan microswitch. The switch can
clearly be seen at the front of the mech. What is (probably) not
happening is that the metal piece is not dropping under its own weight
and cutting off supply to the motor. This is either because the pivots
etc are gummed up in which case a clean and lubricate should do it or
because the selector system is out of adjustment.

The same microswitch is used to start the scan when a selection has been
made. The irregular piece is 'cocked' and lifted off the microswitch by
the cam on the selection system and once a full two way scan has been
made it will return to the same rest point. If the components with the
selection solenoids etc. have been maladjusted then the switch may not
cut off.

regards,

Doug
