Hi Hildegard,
Just guessing--I was not around in those days--but I would guess that the "A" probably either stood for a metal cabinet or the "blonde" colored cabinet. I don't think that they made both the 147 and 148 at the same time. It's my understanding that the 147 wood cabinets were the earlier production, with the metal cabinets being the later version. (Someone told me that the reason for the metal cabinets was that Seeburg aquired "tons" of metal on the surplus market--cheeeeeeep). Ron Rich

Hello Everybody,
we got an email from US regarding a Seeburg Trashcan. The owner says it is a 148 but now found out that the ID plate days it is a 147SA. It has a blonde metal cabinet, the 148 dome and the animation kit at the bottom with the spinning color wheel that reflects off the glitter on the grill cloth. The serial number is #157809 so that would match both the 147 and 148.
My questions are:
Was there a blonde 147 available, too?
Did Seeburg built the 147 and 148 parallel for some time?
>From a former post here I saved this answer by Ron Rich regarding the letters on the 147:
"The letters at the end stand for the type of "selection receiver" (or "control center") that the machine was equipped with at the factory.
S is for "solenoid drum assembly" - no Wallboxes
M is for " Master Selection Receiver" - Wired or Wireless Wallboxes
W is for "Wired Selection Receiver" - Wired Wallboxes only"
So now I wonder about the SA with the 147. Does the "A" in the model number mean the metal cabinet?
Thanks in davance - Hildegard
