Any rock music on 78s is worth a lot of money. 78 production
started declining in the mid 50s, and one of the last rock
songs released on 78 was "At the Hop" in 1958. You see
V- copies of Chuck Berry songs going for 60-70 dollars.
Even color-dog RCA Victor pressings of Elvis' big songs
like "Hound Dog" and "Treat Me Nice" routinely go for
that kind of money in V+ to E- condition. In India,
Parlophone continued releaseing 78s into the late 60s,
and there have been pressings of Beatles songs that
go for over a thousand dollars. The version of Jingle
BelL Rock I mentioned was the original Bobby Helms
version (with the chorus in the bridge intact, unlike
45 reissues from the 70s). I had to bid that high to
win it. I don't buy more than two or three expensive
records in a year, but I want a good selection in
the Seeburg, and if you want it you have to pay for it.
But a copy of Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" or Glen
Miller's "In the Mood" is still only worth 50 cents
no matter what condition it's in. :-)
