The problem with this is that you transfer the wearing surface from
the needle to the record. If you're playing trashed records and
you don't care if they get *more* trashed, that's fine. But the
needle was intended to be sacrificial in order to preserve the
record. Unless you're playing a record with a modern lightweight
pickup, protect the record and use a steel needle!
