Can I add here that if you really want a high quality stylus made
for your cartridge, Expert Stylus Company in Surrey, England can
do the job. Cheap? Heh-heh-heh. Unreasonable? No. $60-80
for a truncated elliptical stylus of the type Kyle mentions.
You have to provide the cantilever that the stylus is attached
to. This is accompished by sending them the old replacable stylus
assembly. I've never used their service, but I know some people
who restore old recordings for re-issue by the record companies,
and they swear by them. They can even provide styli for odd
shaped grooves like Edison and Pathe. They don't seem to have a
web site (which shows they aren't hurting for business) but there
is a writeup about them on this web site from my acquaintance
Graham Newton, a fellow who used to, amongst other things, cut
record masters for RCA Victor:
