Hi Bob - the arm that moves on the right side after you press the last
button is called the write-in arm - it stops at your selection lever and
"writes in" the selection by pushing the lever, Then the record basket
should start rotating. Also connected to the record basket is a "read-out"
arm - this is on the very far right hand side. The basket will rotate until
the read out arm hits the selected lever and the machine will stop and play
that record.
You should be able to flip one of those levers by hand, and the machine
should take off and play (even though you did not press a button up top).
Here is something you should check - somewhere near the record basket is a
little lever - it should have a black plastic "handle" on it, but it is
usually missing and there is just a metal lever there. This is the control
switch and has three positions - "OPERATE", "OFF", and "SCAN". Sometimes
this label is missing. Normal operation the switch should be in "operate".
If you are working on the machine, most people switch it to "off" in the
middle. If you want to load records, you can push it to "SCAN", and the
record basket will move. It's spring loaded in the scan position, and will
spring back to "off" when you let go. So you push it a little, load some
records, push it a little more, load more records, and continue until all
the records are loaded.
Here's the thing you need to remember - after loading records, you must push
the switch to "operate". Otherwise, it will not play. Most people load
records and forget to push it back to "operate". If you leave it in "OFF",
the write-in arm will still work, but it will not scan to pick up records.
Check this and let me know what you find. Also, check to see if you can push
a lever by hand and if the machine will play. Good luck,
Jim

HELP!
I found your name on a reply to a bulletin board from 2 years ago....I'm
taking a stab that you still have this e-mail address. I recently
purchased a 474 sybaris (Rock Ola) that was working fine when I looked at
it. Somehow, while moving it, it no longer works.
The front lights up, if I touch the needle, I get sound from the speakers,
when I make a selection, the right side of the mechanism moves, but nothing
happens on the left side. I purchased a used Wiring diagram, parts
catalog, and service manual. Unfortunately, it's all Greek to me, and the
gentleman that I purchased it from, doesn't know how, or doesn't want to
help me to even look at it. He removed all the records, but didn't tie
anything down, I'm not sure what could have bounced loose, but I can't get
anything on the right side ( record selector and turntable) to move.
Whatever the thing on the right side that starts moving after the 3rd
button is pushed, seems to work OK, but I don't know what position the
switches should be in. Right now, they are all in the same position. (not
sure who did that, or if it's right, but when I looked at it the first
time, I could have sworn that some were switched up and some down)
Can you offer a "dumby" a little help on where to start? I was hoping
that at least one of the manuals that I purchased ($30.00) would have told
me simple things, like how to add and change records, etc, but nope....no
such luck.
any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Once I get it fixed, it will be
for personal use only, so I'd be willing to send you one of the manuals (
that I can't read anyway) as payment for helping me.
Thanks
