My gripper motor started blowing the 1.6Amp fuse...drawing to much current. With direction from this board, I pulled the gripper motor and opened it up to find the brushes in bad shape and the innards grimey. I had a spare carrosel motor which I got off Ebay, I cleaned both motors/commutators with contact spray, oiled them with Zoom spout and put them back together each with new motor brushes I got from Stamanns. The original motor still blew fuses when I hooked it up to power, so I switched gear boxes using the carrosel motor and it works fine now. You need to be sure to properly "align/mesh" the gears with the motor gear and gripper gear so you won't get any hurkey-jerkey movement. There is some alignment play in the three mounting bolts/screws. Also, while the motor is out, it's a good time to use your hand to turn the gripper gear through it's cycle, gives you an appreciation for the force required by the motor and you might find a sticking spot(s)where lubrication is needed.
Thanks as always to guys on this board who dispense experienced advice to us novices...!

> The loud squeak usually comes from the "retainers" that hold the records in the basket as it rotates. I use ONE DROP of SAE 20wt. ND oil on each one, and have used a small amount of CRC/Staylube, Moly-graph grease on the metal band where the retainers rub. I also use the same oil on the gear motors. I oil both sides of the main shaft (the one with the gear on it) and both of the armature bearings ( this requires motor removal, and dis-assembly). SOME of the motors have either one or two oil holes, with "wicks", that will reach the armature bearings--This will probably repair the sluggish motor-- I have also seen a very few instances where the grease in the motor gear box has turned to "glue". I also use the oil on the turntable motor bearings (top & bottom), and the idler wheel bearing and arm. And, most important on all R/O's, oil the gripper arm assembly--Get the oil "worked" in between the two gears on the right side, all the pivots, and "both sections" of the (spring
> loaded record "picker-upper") gripper itself. Don't forget the bearings on the shaft underneath, and put a drop on all "guide pins" on the gripper assembly.
