You are exactly right.  The episode ends as the first
couple (played the old AMI) returns to the cafe, She
had collected a reward for turning him in for a crime.
 They enter the cafe and the song plays and then there
is a terrible scream.  It had to be a death scream.

You have a wonderful memory!  I must have SGBD (Sewer
Gas Brain Damage) after 30 years at the sewage plant. 
It is just like CRS!
