You're thinking of "Last Kiss," a hit in 1964.  The
Cavaliers were from San Angelo, Texas.  When I was
living in San Angelo after being stationed at an Air
Force base there, I actually had a chance to see a
reunion show of the Cavaliers.

"Last Kiss" was remade by a group called Wednesday in
the mid-'70s and then more recently by Pearl Jam, I
believe.
