Jackie,
Smoke ainta no good---Is that motor an "open" or "closed" type? If there is an oil hole on it , oil it now.
As for the cable attached to the brush--check that it is on the pulleys-not jamming behind one, and that the needle brush is adjusted so that the tip of the bristles just touches the tip of the needle as it passes by. Also, on some model Wurlys, the pivot point that the brush arm turns, on gets gummy-clean and oil it.

Hi Jim,
many thanks, you were right on! It was the transfer switch. I am not sure
why it's acting up, but I messed with the cable attached to the brush and
manually moved the blade over so the spring would snap and then tried
another record. It canceled out just fine.
I do however have another issue I noticed, the transfer is running very
slow, the arm goes up very slow or comes down slow, then the record clamps
and it runs up to speed. I also noticed a small amount of smoke coming from
what seemed to be the motor up by the transfer switch before it started
working again.Any idea what could cause that?
Also, Ron, thank you also for the reminder about the pawl. The one on the
right (from the back of the machine) was all gummed up with oil. I'm
puzzled as to how it got there because I cleaned those completely with
alcohol not long ago and they were clicking, clean as a whistle. I wiped it
off again, the one on the left seemed fine.
Everytime these Jukeboxes run, I am still amazed. I hope I never loose that
thrill, it's just so much fun! Thank you all so much,
Jackie
